Self Portrait, Grete Stern, 1935

I found this portrait very interesting because although the focus is Grete, herself, my attention seems to be drawn to the fashion and time-defining details of the photo. My immediate attention went to her face and the details like the style of her makeup and hair. Her dark lips, thin eyebrows, and simple eyes along with her pin up style hair dates the photo. You immediately know the time period which can add more context when studying the image. 

I also found her expression very intriguing because her face is blank but her eyes seem sad. 

(Maybe the flowers, makeup, and hair are hiding something??? Her true feelings??? Is she hiding behind them???)
