Week 2 Wrap-Up

W. Eugene Smith, Dance of the Flaming Coke, 1955

Hi Everybody,

I hope you are having a great weekend!

Thanks for braving the cold and jumping right into shooting.

In the mean time, on to this week's homework:

1- Before the end of the weekend, post a photo to the class blog. This can be anything—one of your own pictures, a photo you like. Introduce yourself to use in this post.

2-Get used to taking your camera with you everyday. Start by shooting 20 pictures everyday. Don’t self-edit right now—just shoot as much as possible.

3. Shoot and post a photo for each of the following compositional techniques:
  • Rule of thirds
  • Leading Lines
  • Landscape Orientation
  • Portrait Orientation
  • Viewpoint
  • Background
  • Framing (if possible)
  • Symmetry and Patterns
  • Get closer!
  • Experiment
Be sure to caption for each photo so we know which technique you are using. Please post these images as a single blog post.

4. Start thinking about your semester series.

That's it for now--as always, please be sure to email me if you have any questions or if anything is unclear.
