Rubin Museum Homework

This photo really caught my attention. It shows refugees exercising. These refugees, who were an oppressed minority in India, were migrating to Pakistan, to follow Islam.

At first, I thought they were in front of an empty sky. After looking close, especially looking at the shadows of the people, I realized they were in front of a blank wall. What makes the photo even more interesting is the contrast from the bottom to the top. On the bottom half, the image is mostly dark, and there is a lot going on. It almost looks like a Renaissance painting, with all the people doing different things, and all facing one side. This is contrasted to the top, with this empty white wall. What makes the picture especially interesting to me, is the intrusion from the bottom to the top. What I'm referring to, is the arms being stuck up. It brings a transition from the bottom half of the picture to the top half of the picture.
