Unknown Photographer, Grand Central Station, c. 1954? |
Thanks for braving the cold weather this week for class! Next week should be a lot warmer. Just a reminder--we will be taking another field trip, so come prepared and bring subway fare for two trips.
This week we looked at exposure and how to shoot in manual mode. We went to Grand Central Station to shoot mini-documentaries. Bonus points: can anyone tell me why the light looks so amazing in the above photograph? Here's a hint--it's related to the black patch of ceiling that I pointed out to you, and the date should give you a clue.
On to this week's homework:
1--Post the 5 documentary photos you shot at Grand Central (We picked some small detail or story to explore in GCS and to tell that photo in 5 photographs. If you weren't in class, you can pick any subject at all of this).
2--Working in Aperture Priority Mode (Av or A on the dial) and Shutter Speed Priority Mode (Tv or S on the dial), shoot photographs that show each of the following:
- Blurred Motion
- Frozen Motion
- Maximum ("deep") Depth of Field
- Minimum ("shallow") Depth of Field
Pick subjects that really show off these settings to good effect. Make sure that you pick the best ISO for the situation.
If you have any questions about any of this, please get in touch.
See you next week!
